Collapsing Distance and Time
This project explores music as a form of travel, how it moves us through memory, emotion, and place without physical displacement. Music lets us return to places that exist only in trace, no matter how far away they are. In this way, this work considers how music collapses distance and time. A single song can return you to a past version of yourself or a relationship that no longer exists. In turn, it provides the necessary context for these past experiences to resurface.
Visually, my images focus on the journey to and around live music. The venue’s atmosphere and the interactions between musicians and audience serve as the foundation for this space, creating moments when energy lingers, exposes connection, and makes it visible. Formally, I work in black and white because it sits one more step away from reality. That distance parallels how music brings back places and moments, not exactly as they are, but as they are remembered.
